CLOUD MEMORY

Cloud Memory explores the material entanglement between bodies and the technological infrastructures that regulate memory, seen here as a continuous process of mutual transformation between biological and technical systems. In Cloud Memory (Breath), a glass-blown form rests on a pedestal designed after RAM architecture, supported by plastic air pockets. RAM is volatile memory - it requires continuous electrical refresh cycles to hold data, losing everything when unpowered. In respiration, rhythmic breathing cycles modulate neural activity in the memory centers of the brain. Both are temporary, cyclical systems, individuating together as co-emergent forms. Cloud Memory (Lap) features a transparent glass cast of a lap situated on an archival filing unit, with a second, reflective form held in the drawer compartments below. Where cloud computing is often framed as an abstract, weightless distribution of memory across distant servers, Cloud Memory (Lap) grounds this distribution in the body, framing memory as the ongoing process and record of the encounter between the body and the technical infrastructures that mold it.
