At the Souls from the Streets exhibition, Greek artists who have developed an artistic activity in the public urban environment are invited to show their works on canvases, drawings, videos and photography. Already in the ‘70s in New York, graffiti begins to infiltrate museums and galleries, simultaneously following its course on the street. Through this territorial “game”, this was the decade when painted walls became a familiar sight for the inhabitants of big cities. Today graffiti continues, as a communication code between those who represent it, and what we call street art is the most communicative, open manifestation of public art. Among others, the references are lowbrow art, pop art, underground comics, fonts and writing, digital design, but also more classical painterly approaches. Public space and its architecture as a field of intervention is still the most significant reference. The purpose of the exhibition is therefore to capture the energy, spontaneity and critical power of street art in the space of the historic Neorio Moro, in the Old Port of Chania.
