02 Yellow Belly (07) WEB 4.jpg

Navelgazer is a cast of my belly out of blown glass as a result of a research on the beginnings of form. It serves as a reference to navelgazing (omphaloskepsis) as the spiritual practice of gazing upon ones’ navel to aid meditation, but also the self reflection embedded in the creative process and the potential crossover into sollipsism. It is filled with squid ink in an attempt to hide its contents and to bring up issues of transparency and the connotations we traditionally assign to darkness.
